Dubbo might not be the first place you think of when you hear the words “live music festival”, but this town has a vibrant live music scene. There are plenty of live music events happening through the year, thanks in part to Dubbo’s local government’s commitment to its Cultural Development Plan.
The Dubbo Regional Entertainment Arts and Music (DREAM) Festival is one of NSW’s largest regional music and arts festivals, celebrating creativity in all its forms, from art contests, music, and markets to light-and-lantern displays and traditional dances.
The DREAM festival runs for 11 days during October, at a variety of locations around Dubbo, and features workshops and displays of art, food, music, culture, and wine, with plenty of offerings from local artists; and let’s not forget the annual Under Western Skies music festival, with a weekend of amazing Australian music playing at a variety of venues across Dubbo.
If you love live music, but music festivals aren’t really your thing Dubbo RSL Club has a great line-up of live music and concerts throughout the year, with tribute shows featuring Fleetwood Mac and Alanis Morissette, All Access 80s paying homage to 80s rock, and country artists such as Beccy Cole and Adam Harvey gracing the stage.
There are the frequent concerts at Dubbo Regional Theatre & Convention Centre, including tributes to Johnny Cash, in the form of Leaving Jackson and Back to San Quentin. You can also look forward to live shows from crowd-pleasers like Human Nature and Tom Burlinson, and the soulful blues and roots of Diesel; from the beautiful classical music of, to stage shows like Club Soda and Menopause the Musical. Even The Wiggles visit Dubbo!
For those who prefer classical music, Dubbo hosts regular concerts at the Macquarie Conservatorium. For example, well-known Australian flutist (technically known as a flautist) Jane Rutter, will be putting in an appearance in Dubbo this year.
If you’re a music lover, but you’re not keen on anything quite so crowded as a festival, or so formal as a concert, there is regular live music at Devil’s Hollow Brewery, and you’ll often find places like Old Bank Hotel Dubbo and The Establishment Bar Dubbo have live music on offer.
There are plenty of live music shows lined up at venues across Dubbo, including:
The best way to experience the DREAM festival and the Under Western Skies festival is to take some time and spend a few days in Dubbo. In fact, if you’re planning on having a great night out listening to some talented musicians or musical artists, having a meal and a cheeky beverage, why not make a weekend of it and spend the night in Dubbo too?
